Experience

David's first career was in Banking and he was provided with the equivalent of a semester of Graduate Level Business School training while working in various management positions. Leaving the business world to search for a job which "helped people heal," he moved to Boulder and and spent 1 1/2 years working as a physical therapy assistant. There he learned about injury rehabilitation working with patients suffering from auto accidents to sports injuries.

Since August of 1999, David has been working as the head massage therapist for the Colorado Rapids professional soccer team. He has developed an extensive preventative maintenance program for the Rapids and has been implementing it into their daily treatments. David has also managed and helped train over 20 massage therapy interns working with the Rapids. Click here to read David's article published on the Rapids' website. David has also worked with many of Boulder's premiere runners, cyclists and triathletes.

David has business relationships with local doctors, physical therapists and chiropractors to provide massage therapy to injured patients. He is referred by the Denver Center for Performing Arts to work with dance and acting companies traveling through town. He has worked with a number of Broadway performers from "Cats", "Kiss Me Kate" and "Beauty and the Beast" and has been contracted by the Australian-based dance company, "Burn the Floor," for the past 2 years. David has also had contracts to work with musicians performing at the Boulder Theater. He is very familiar with assessing biomechanical disorders related to both the workplace and athletics and has an excellent understanding of how to work with a person to help them relax.

Philosophy

David's vision of massage as therapy begins with the belief that healing begins when you are an active participant in your session. Through breath coaching and visualizations, he encourages you to be present during your session and to embody your experience as it occurs on the table. David's work entails therapeutic and rehabilitative massage and he focuses on your total well being, not simply an absence of pain. He believes in massage because it is a natural, hands-on form of health care that can be used to prevent symptoms and restore health. David always works to resolve the cause of your pain rather than treat isolated symptoms to decrease your potential for future injuries. Because he strongly believes in patient education as a vital part of rehabilitation, David often suggests stretches or exercises for your continuing home care.

Personal Interests

An avid outdoor enthusiast, David enjoys being outside as often as possible. He enjoys mountain biking, mountaineering, endurance sports racing, telemark skiing and hiking or snowshoeing with his dog, Denali. These past few years, David has raced in two 100 mile extreme mountain bike races and has completed an Olympic distance triathlon. He claims that an integral part of his training regime was receiving weekly massage therapy. David balances his athletic drive with a yoga practice and quiet mediation at his mountain home outside Boulder.
